Longford Horticulture's Weekly diaries.

The Horticultural year is divided up not only to seasons but also into weeks. Fifty two weeks define the year starting in January with week one. The sections below are a short list of jobs which have to be done on the grounds here at Longford Horticulture. First thing to do is click on the week number below and you will be presented with another listing which is divided up into the various sections which must be maintained over the course of the year. Week 1

Divide Pulmonaria Prune Apple, Pear tress, Prune Black currants, Goose berries and Red currants, Force some Rhubarb. Clean top shed Weed along the kerbs, Fill in tracks on the front lawn, Weed around the mound, Water plants in boxes by Manor front door, Check for plants which, need pruning and are encroaching on other plants, Clear old wood and ivy from centre of pruned bushes, Edge and tidy around bottom car park. Check the cuttings and pot some of them that has rooted, Weed the grasses in the middle tunnel, Wash out seed trays and six packs, Water plants in middle tunnel. Tidy up Rocket in tunnel, Tidy up Lettuce in nursery tunnel, Dig over Beds in top tunnel. Weed Cloches Wash trays Tidy Herb garden, Turn compost.

Week 2

Divide remaining Alpines Tie up fruit canes, Weed and tidy Alpine bed, Display spring interest bulbs and plants. Tidy top shed. Fill in hollows in lawn with topsoil from big field, Trim some plants from around the conifers, Take off the fleeces of protected plants on, grounds, Weed primrose bed in Shalom area, Remove and bin old foliage on the Hellebore's, Prune the wisteria and climbing Roses. Wash trays and pots, Divide grasses, Individually water pots in tunnel, Re-pot cuttings that are well rooted, Check plants on the warm bench, Check for rot on bulbs and dahlia's, Take cuttings of deciduous Viburnum . Tidy tunnels Open cloches, Sow winter salads in the green house. Clean tool shed. Tidy herb garden,Any necessary weeding, Thin out mint, Continue to train the Jasmine to the wall, Remove the mint from around the Cupressus sempervirens, Dig the remainder of the veg garden, Cover the Rhubarb with pots to force some early growth.

Week 3

Finish tidying alpine bed, weeding and cutting back alpines, Tidy and weed borders, Divide remaining alpines. Trim some plants from around conifers, Take off the fleeces on protected plants, Prune Wisteria and climbing roses, Down in Shalom area, take off, the ivy and long beech branches from around the Flowering cherry trees. Weed and stand up pots outside, Water pots in nursery, Pot on soft and semi soft wood cuttings, Wash pots and Liners in storage shed, Divide. grasses Clean the tool shed. Divide and replant the horse radish in herb garden, Move the smaller Pulmonaria closer to front of herb garden, Continue to plant selected plants, from nursery into the Sensory garden. (Thyme, Rosemary, Rosa Rugosa), Continue weeding the Sensory Garden, Divide the lemon balm and replant, Dig up some of the Feaverfew and move to more appropriate positions

Week 4

Check tunnel for weeds. Tie in the fruit canes, Prune the pear trees, Weed around the fruit trees, Trim back ivy. Collect seeds, Sharpen tools, Study. Dig over beds, Clear up Moutbretia, Remove Hellebore foliage, Check Alpines for leaf debris, Dead head pansies and bedding. Weed and stand up pots, Label all pots and put in line, Weed ground and clear area for pots, Move Rhubarb out of cold frame, Take strawberry's from poly tunnel and place in cold frame for Harding off, Continue to weed and water in tunnels as required, Pot on remaining soft and semi ripe. cuttings Take root cuttings of Anemone, Monitor Conifer cuttings turn plastic and water mid week. Tidy the sheds Sort through all the seed packages and save the packs still in date and discard the old ones, Turn over the leaf mould pile at the composting, section. Clean the tool shed. Move the Liburnum cissus from herb bed to the wall in the front garden and provide a training wire and tie the plant to the support wires, Dig and weed the herb garden, Check the seeds that are in stock and discard any that are too old, Continue to plant the new herb plants into the herb, garden, Tie the Jasminium to its support wires.

Week 5

Check tunnel for weeds. Tie in the fruit canes, Prune the pear trees, Weed around the fruit trees, Trim back ivy, Add extra soil around the base of the fruit trees. Tidy up a shed, Study for exams. Replant shrubs which have become loose due to the winter wind damage, Sort and clean the bamboo canes, Clean up around the pond and weed around a few of its adjacent beds, Dead head the pansies and bedding plants, Dig up a few of the beds around the grounds. Continue to weed pots and stand upright. Continue to check for Vine Weevil, Water as required, Sowed Antirrhinum and Lobelia seeds, Water and turned plastic on conifers in cold frame. Clean sheds and do some horticulture study. Check if some old seed are worth keeping and discard, Sow sweet peas in deep pots and keep them frost free in greenhouse, Sow tender crops such as tomatoes and chillies on warm bench, Sow shruby seed, such as cotoneaster, Check on lettuce and onion seed,so that it is germinating in seed trays, Sow all the Herb seed in seed trays. Clean one of the sheds, Continue study. Dig and weed the last quarter of the herb garden, Finish planting the newly selected and divided plants in the sensory garden, Divide the irises, Divide the Alchemillis mollis, Tie the Agrycytisus to its training wire, Hunt out overwintering slugs and snails by turning over pots and rocks, Finish tying the Jasminium to its training wire, Perhaps add one more training wire for the Jasminium to be trained to.

Week 6

Do a stock take on fertilisers,peat etc. Fertilise all fruit, Finish putting top-soil around bushes, Clear Ivy from wall. Plant dahlia's into trays. Cut down deciduous grasses, Transplant any shrubs which need to be moved, Prune Buddleja's, Prune over grown shrubs to a reasonable size, Prune and feed Rose's with slow release fertiliser, Edge around flower borders and beds, Gather up any Hellebore seedlings in the secret garden and pot on into 6 packs. weed containerised plants, check for vine weevil, spray out door potted plant area, remove ivy from wall. weed plants in tunnel. Clean the work sheds. Check the lettuce and onion seeds that have been planted in modules for germination, Sow sweet peas in deep pots and keep then frost free in the green house, Sow tender crops such as tomatoes and chillies, Sow some shrub seeds such as cotoneaster, Sort out the remainder of the seeds which have been saved and collected and place them in brown envelopes. Sow some Seeds [Onion}, chit Potatoes. Trim back Ivy on Walls, Dig Vegetable beds, Plant Horseradish, Divide and plant Chives, Pot on Chives plants for Nursery, Feed the Apple and Rose, trees in Herb Garden.

Week 7

Find a shed to clean. Prune the rose bushes and feed each bush with 30 grams of Horti K, Plant Dahlias in trays, Hard prune any remaining ericaceous grasses, Move any shrubs which still need to be moved, Spay lawns with copper sulphate. weed pots in tunnel. weed the remaining pots, check for vine weevil, spray display area with Round Up, Return pots to display area. Clean sheds and do some Horticulture study, Pruning Workshop on Roses. Check in on all the seed trays and see that all the seedlings are growing, Sow sweet peas in deep pots and keep them frost free in green house, Sow some chilli seed, Sow all the lavender seed. Study, Sow Seeds (canary creeper,aubrita mix,prostanthera cunneata, borage, lavender,penstemon,iberis sibrica,dierana pulcherrimum,cosmos bipinatus,sweet pea,cerinthia,water cress,wild lupins,wild grass. Make drill for shallots, Plant shallot bulb's, Sow sweet pea, Sow sweet chillies.

Week 8

Grade the Dahlia tubers into large medium and small selections and pot on, Prune standard and carpet roses, Feed roses with Horti K. Plant grasses in the wild garden, Plant any remaining Primulas around empty area's on the grounds, Plant any remaining Daffodils and tulips in beds around the grounds. weed pots in tunnel. remove weeds from the remaining pots in the middle tunnel, check remaining pots for vine weevil, Spray display area with Round Up, Return pots to display area, Label and ID plants in the display area. Weed the top tunnel. study Continue to monitor the salads which have been sown, Sow Chilli Peppers and tomato seeds, Feed the strawberry plants under the cloches, Remove any weeds under the cloches. Sow a selection of vegetable seed, Study. Sow onion seed, Sow Brussels sprouts, leeks and broad beans, Sow Garlic chives and garlic bulbs, Prune and stake the Sempervirens trees in the herb garden, Prune the Hypericum and Artemesia in the herb garden, Take some hardwood cuttings from the Artemesia shrub in the herb garden.

Week 9

Finish potting the dahlias and put them into the greenhouse. Continue to dead head flowers in the borders, Plant out tulips from the top tunnel into beds and borders, Plant out primulas in the beds and borders, Plant out grasses into the wild garden. Water plants in the middle tunnel, Weed pots in middle tunnel. Continue weeding pots in the display and outside nursery section, Continue checking pots for vine weevil, Have the outside display areas sprayed with glyphosate, Move pots back to their proper locations, Label all the pots outside. Weed the top tunnel, Prick out parsley and pot on, Prick out dill and pot on, Take some alpine cuttings. Sow chilli seeds, Check on seedlings on the warm bench. Find a shed to clean, Do some study. Sow onion seed, Sow Brussels sprouts, Sow leeks, Sow Broad beans, Sow Dwarf french runner beans, Trim along the was in the herb garden, Prune climbing roses in herb garden, Prune Jasmine in the herb garden.

Week 10

Clean out the top shed. Divide Galanthus and replant to to form a carpet effect, Dead head flowers in the beds as needed, Plant out grasses and primulas in the wild garden, If necessary feed the Heather's on the mound, Cut back the penstemon in the heated garden, Spray sulphate of iron on the lawn to kill off the moss. Continue to monitor the seedlings on the warm bench, Continue to water seedlings on the warm bench, Continue to monitor the semi-ripe cuttings in the cold frames and water if needed, Continue to monitor the plants in the middle tunnel and water and weed if needed. Continue labelling the plants outside the middle and top tunnel. Find time for some study, Clean one of the sheds. Sow chilli and pepper seeds, Monitor the seeds already sown in the nursery, Check on the potatoes that are chitting. Sow some vegetable seed. Sow onion seed eg(red onions), Continue to trim ivy along the back wall, Prune the Jasmine, Prune the roses, Plant onion sets.

Week 11

Clean out the top shed, Finish sorting out seeds upstairs. Plant out remaining bulbs into the beds and borders, Plant more grasses into the wild garden, Scarify the lawns. Clean out the tunnels. Monitor seedlings in the nursery, Water seedlings in the nursery, Monitor plants in the middle tunnels, Water plants in the middle tunnels, Monitor plants in the green house, Water plants in the green house, Monitor plants and cuttings in the cold frames, Water plants and cuttings in the cold, frames, Water potted plants outside if they are dry. Pot on tomatoes and any other seedlings which are ready to be transplanted. Monitor seedlings in the nursery, Check on the potatoes which are chitting, Plant any potatoes which have fully chitted. Sow some vegetable seeds, Clean the top shed. Sow some red onion seeds, Finish trimming along the back wall, Prune the roses along the back wall, Prune and tie in the Jasmine along the back, wall, Plant some onion sets.

Week 12

Clean the top shed. Scarify the front lawns, Dead head the daffodils and winter bedding plants, Place slug pellets around and slug tender bulbs, Take off fleeces from around tender plants if risk of frost has passed, Hard prune the Cornus alba, Cut the Cistus bush down to its base, Check tree ties, Mow the lawns. Clean the tunnels. Water plants in the tunnels, Transplant any seedling that are ready to 6 packs, Monitor the seedlings on the warm bench, Some some summer bedding, seeds, Monitor plants in the cold frames. Clean the tool shed. Weed under the cloches, Open the cloches and close at the end of the day, Add some new top soil under the cloches, Monitor the crops under the, cloches, Sow some crop seed still not sown. Clean the tool shed. Weed around the apple trees, Weed around the currant bushes, Strim grass around the apple trees and currant bushes, Put topsoil from soak pit, around the apple trees and currant bushes.

Week 13

Clean up the top shed. Continue dead heading the daffodils and spring bedding flowers, Tidy rose beds and check roses for aphids, Trim the Heather's if they are finished flowering, Remove weeds from flower beds, Mow the lawns. Prick out and pot on any seedlings which have their first true leaves. Water and monitor plants in the nursery, Water outdoor pots if dry, Monitor the plants in the cold frames and greenhouse, Do some softwood cuttings of penstemon and fuchsia. Monitor the seedlings in the nursery, Prick out and pot on any seedlings ready for transplanting, Sow some carrots under the cloches, Sow cucumber squash sweet peppers and red onion, Divide the herbs in the nursery. Monitor crops under the cloches, Weed the strawberries under the cloches. Clean the tool shed. Weed the strawberry beds, Sow broccoli and cabbage seed, Mow the grass around the apple trees and blackcurrant bushes.

Week 14
Week 15

There is nothing much happening in the fruit area so it has been re-assigned to the Veg staff. Clean one of the storage sheds. Continue to dead head Daffodils and Spring flowers, Check the Roses for aphids and spray if required, Remove the weeds growing on the mound and the rose bed, Mow the lawns, Trim the hedges. Monitor seedlings on the warm bench, Water all plants in nursery and outside. Take softwood cuttings of Fuchsia, Pinch flower heads of bedding plants, Pot on the peppers, Sow some more bedding plant seeds. Clean out the top shed, Divide herbs, Sow rocket and salads. Weed the strawberry bed under cloche. Clean the top shed, Find some time to study. Water plants on display, Sow (Runner Beans and Courgettes, Sow Cabbage seed, Tend fruit section if anything needs to be done.

Week 16

Clean the top shed. Do any weeding which may be required around the fruit trees and bushes, Prune every second or third red currant branch, Mow the lawns in the fruit area. Tidy up one of the sheds, Try fit in some study. Dig over the flower beds and tidy up in general, Mow the lawns if weather is favourable, Dead head the bedding plants, Trim the Heather's, Protect roses from aphids with Rose Clear. Water all the plants in the nursery tunnels. Sow seeds (Cosmos, Nemesia, Lavender, Poppy, Viola and Chinese Lanterns). Find a shed to clean or do some study. Sow some carrot seen under the cloche, Water broad beans in the top tunnel, Pot on the basil seedlings putting for or five to a one litre pot.

Week 17

Tidy top shed, Find some study time. Strim around the lawns and flower beds, Mow the lawns, Dead head the bedding plants, Dig over the flower beds and tidy up, Weed any beds needing some tlc. Water plants in all the tunnels and cold frames. Sow seed for bedding plants, Move out of nursery any plants ready to be hardened off, Sow some Rocket Lettuce Radish, Spring Onion seed, Pinch out the flowers of the bedding plants. Find a shed to clean, Find some time to study. Move the tomato plants to the top tunnel, Open occasionally the cloche for the strawberries, Pot on a few chilli pepper seedlings, Sow onions and chilli peppers in modular trays. Clean out the tool shed, Find some time to study. Continue to weed the vegetable beds, Continue to weed the herb garden, Continue weeding the fruit section, Continue to monitor the Alpine garden, Weed the shepherds purse in the strawberry beds.

Week 18

It's quiet in the fruit section so the veg staff will float this area. Do a stock take of all the chemicals on site. Plant out more Dahlia's in the round bed, Weed all the beds, Mow the lawns, Plant up the window boxes, Fertilise the lawns. Water all the plants in tunnels and cold frames. Pinch out tips of bedding plants, Prick out and pot on more of the seedlings on the warm bench, Harden off some plants which are strong enough. Clean up one of the sheds, Find a little time for study. Plant the peppers, cucumbers melons and squash plants in the tunnel, Weed around the veg in the lower tunnels, Water the veg under the cloches, Open the cloches for a short while every day, Sow lettuce and spring onion, Mount sticky traps in the tunnels. Tidy up the tool shed, Find some time to study. Pot on any veg seedling which are big enough, Sow some vegetable seedling, Take cuttings of herbs, Finish making the climbing fence for the peas, Cut the grass around Rhubarb area, Make wig-wams for French Bean in the tunnel.

Week 19

There is still not much happening in this section at the moment. The veg staff are still taking care of the section. Plant up the window boxes. Prune Forsythia, Plant out more Dahlia tubers, Feed the tulips and daffodils till they have died back. Water the tunnels and cold frames. Continue pricking out tips of bedding plants, Prick out some more seedlings and pot them on, Monitor any plants the greenhouse. Find a shed to clean, Find some study time. Plant tomatoes in the tunnel which entails supporting, tying up and training. Clean out the tool shed, Find a little study time. Mound up the potatoes, Weed the onions, Take cuttings of rosemary lavender and thyme, Plant some dill in the herb garden.

Week 20

This area is being covered by the Veg staff. Paint up the arch in the shed and ready it for installation out on the grounds, Find some time for study. Strike some cuttings of Fuchsia and Penstemon, Weed some of the beds, Spray the horsetail, Plant out some more dahlias, Remove wallflowers and Mayosotis from the beds, Fertilise the lawns. Water plants in the Nursery and cold frames, Monitor any plants in the greenhouse. Pinch out tips of bedding plants, Prick out more seedlings, Harden of any plants that are strong enough, Hang fly traps in the tunnels, Spray for aphids, Pot on any plants in liners in the nursery. Clean out a shed, Find a little study time. Water under the cloches and tunnel, Plant out some tomatoes outside, Watch for aphids in the tunnel, Sow some spring onion and lettuce, Finish planting cucumbers, squash, melons and courgettes. Find a shed to clean, Find some study time. Tie in fruit canes, Earth up the potatoes, Spread some slug pellets around tender plants, Take some cuttings of herb's, Plant out cabbage, Sow some more vegetable seed, Prick out and pot on some vegetable seedlings, Make some wig-wams for the lower tunnel, Cut grass in fruit area, Plant some turnips.

Week 21

Clean one of the sheds, find some study time. Weed around the fruit trees, cut grass in fruit section if required, weed the alpine section, monitor hosta's for slug damage, cover developing fruit with fleece, watch out for aphids, tie new fruit canes to supports, pull out any raspberry shoots growing in wrong place, feed the strawberry's. Pot on any grasses not heeled in. Plant on Holly trees, plant sorbus on mound, put slug pellets around hosta's to protect against slugs, weed around the mound, mow the lawns, strim around the trees, spray roses against black spot, prune spring flowering shrubs. Sow a range of seed if necessary, water plants in tunnel 1/2 and the greenhouse, pot on any cuttings that are ready, prick out any seedlings that are ready for transplanting. Take some cuttings of hydrangea and pelargoniums, pinch out any flowers growing on plants in the tunnel or under plastic. Give tomatoes peppers courgettes and chillies a feed, pinch out tomato suckers, keep plants in tunnel 1/3 watered. Plant spring onions, check compost heaps, keep cloches watered. Plant french runner beans in tunnel 1, sow some cabbage seed. Plant out peas and provide support, weed vegetable plots if necessary.

Week 22

Clean one of the sheds, find some study time. Weed around the fruit trees, cut grass in fruit section if required, weed the alpine section, monitor hosta's for slug damage, cover developing fruit with fleece, watch out for aphids, tie new fruit canes to supports, pull out any raspberry shoots growing in wrong place, feed the strawberry's. Find some time to study, clean top shed, pot on the heeled in grasses. Weed the beds most in need on the grounds, mow the lawns, water the containers at manor door, trim any shrubs which have finished flowering, dig up and save Mayosotis, continue planting summer bedding, provide support to delphiniums, feed the lawns with 10-10-20. Sow a range of seed if necessary, water plants in tunnel 1/2 and the greenhouse, pot on any cuttings that are ready, prick out any seedlings that are ready for transplanting. Take some softwood cuttings, pinch out any flowers growing on plants in the tunnel or under plastic, pick up any fallen debris under plastic on warm bench. Give tomatoes peppers courgettes and chillies a feed, pinch out tomato suckers, keep plants in tunnel 1/3 watered. Weed the herb garden, check the compost heaps, take some softwood cuttings, do a second sowing of salads and spring onions, keep cloches watered. Find some time to study, clean one of the sheds. Plant out kale beetroot and beans, peas will need to be tied and trained, prick out cabbage seedlings and pot on.

Week 23

Clean one of the sheds, find some study time. Weed around the gooseberries, prune apple trees, trim the privet hedge, tie in any canes not secured, dunk or water pots in the alpine section, cut grass around fruit section if required. Find some time to study, clean top shed. Weed any borders looking untidy, cut the lawns, weed the secret garden, plant out more bedding plants, water the window boxes, keep a check on the rose beds, Deadhead any spent flower heads, put sulphate of iron on the Hydrangea shrubs. Find some time to study, clean out the nursery. Monitor cuttings in the cold frame and water when required, try fill the warm bench with cuttings, pot on plants which have outgrown their liners, pot on any cuttings which are ready, water and weed any potted plants. Find some time to study and or find a shed to clean. Pick out side shoots of Chrysanthemum in tunnel 1, plant out spring onions, plant out salads, sow more salad leaves, feed tomatoes Monday and Thursday, water all crops in tunnel 1 and 3 everyday. Find some time to study, clean one of the sheds. Plant out kale beetroot and beans, peas will need to be tied and trained, prick out cabbage seedlings and pot on.

Week 24

Clean one of the sheds, find some study time. Weed around the fruit bushes, prune apple trees, trim the privet hedge, tie in any canes not secured, dunk or water pots in the alpine section, cut grass around fruit section if required. Find some time to study, clean top shed. Weed the beds and borders, cut the lawns, weed in secret garden, plant out some more bedding plants, water the window boxes, keep the rose bed tidy and clean and weeded, deadhead any spent flower heads, put Sulphate of Iron on the Hydrangea shrubs. Find some time to study, clean out the nursery. Monitor cuttings in the cold frame and water when required, try fill the warm bench with cuttings, pot on plants which have outgrown their liners, pot on any cuttings which are ready, water and weed any potted plants. Find some time to study and or find a shed to clean. Pick out side shoots of Chrysanthemum in tunnel 1, plant out spring onions, plant out salads, sow more salad leaves, feed tomatoes Monday and Thursday, water all crops in tunnel 1 and 3 everyday. Find some time to study, clean one of the sheds, plant a round of peas and beans. Mound up potatoes, plant out some cabbage, tie up peas and beans, take cuttings of sage, plant out some tomatoes, trim privet hedge, plant out some beetroot.

Week 25

Clean one of the sheds, find some study time. Weed the alpine garden, harvest blackcurrants, dunk and water plants in pots in the alpine garden, put nets over apple trees to protect from birds. Find some time to study, clean top shed. Weed the borders and beds, apply a top dressing to the container plants, cut the lawns, dead head spent flower heads, apply Rose Clear to roses to protect from black spot, remove any Mayosotis from the beds and borders still remaining. Find some time to study, clean out the nursery. Take cuttings such as Hydrangea Pelargoniums and Fuchsia, pot on any plants which have outgrown their liners, pot on lavenders, prepare for the sale and make an effort to sort out the potted plants, make sure any plants not for sale are in secure locations, sow seed of Wallflowers foxgloves and honesty. Find some time to study and or find a shed to clean. Tidy up the compost heaps, plant out any spring onions, make sure melons are not sitting on ground in the tunnel, feed the tomatoes twice a week, feed and water tomatoes in greenhouse, clean and weed under the cloches. Find some time to study, clean one of the sheds, plant a round of peas and beans. Mound up potatoes, plant out some cabbage, tie up peas and beans, take cuttings of sage, plant out some tomatoes, trim privet hedge, plant out some beetroot.

Week 26

Clean one of the sheds, find some study time. Weed the display area, harvest any ripe fruit, weed around fruit bushes, cut grass in fruit section, harvest rhubarb, harvest strawberries, pot on strawberry runners. Find some time to study, clean top shed. Put slug tox around dahlia's, deadhead the summer bedding flowers, mow the lawns, fill up heated bed with bedding plants, weed any borders which are untidy, deadhead the roses, water the window boxes, feed roses, feed and replace any failed buxus hedging. Find some time to study, clean out the nursery. Take cuttings of Pyracantha Spirea hydrangea and Cistus, sow seeds of wallflowers foxgloves pansies and honesty. Monitor cuttings under plastic, water if required, pick up debris around cuttings, monitor plants in tunnel 2 and water when required, monitor plants outside in pots and dunk or water when required. Find some time to study and or find a shed to clean, pinch of bottom third of leaves on tomatoes, prune the grape plant. Feed tomatoes peppers chillies cucumbers Monday and Thursday, water crops in tunnel 1 and 3 everyday, water under cloches, weed under and between cloches, sow more salad leaves, make up a comfry mix. Find some time to study, clean one of the sheds, plant a round of peas and beans. Add fertiliser to the crops in ridges, water and tie up beans and peas, weed around the Brassica, continue weeding and making tidy the herb garden.

Week 27

Clean one of the sheds, find some study time. Clean one of the sheds, find some study time. Finish pruning fruit bushes, finish up any general tidy up jobs before christmas break. Find some time to study, clean top shed. Gather up all the fallen leaves and compost them, last push to tidy up the paths and drives and make the grounds well for christmas. Find some time to study, clean out the nursery. Take hardwood cuttings of roses, water all plants under cover and outside if required, water any protected plants under plastic, monitor under the cold frames, monitor under plastic for pests and disease and clean up fallen debris. Find some time to study and or find a shed to clean, store chillies. Water under cloches, continue to harvest salads, open cloches briefly every few days, get busy with last clean up around protected crops area before holidays. Find some time to study, clean one of the sheds. Do any final cleaning required before christmas break, harvest any late winter veg.
